MARQUETRY TABLE 1993
In 1992 I received a scholarship to study towards a Masters in furniture design at the University of Tasmania, Centre for the Arts, Hobart, where I came to appreciate the beauty and diversity of Australian native timbers. I spent a year working with timber veneers learning the old craft of marquetry, but using both traditional hand-cut and modern laser-cut techniques. The inlay details on this table where all handcut using traditional techniques.
I also produced a series of laser-cut marquetry boxes which you can see by clicking here.
